This long-standing tradition celebrates the accomplishments of our alumni for their dedication and commitment to UC Irvine and the community at large. SPIN (Serving People In Need) had a great idea for a fundraiser Sunday night at A Restaurant in Newport Beach. The non-profit invited people from the community to celebrity bartend, and the event sold out with 165 guests showing up for the $25 Blue Plate Special, or in this case the SPIN Plate Special. Chef Vartan Abgaryan offered his famous meat loaf, fluffy mashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts for that special price, or you could select other delicious items off the menu. Either way, $10 was donated from every meal ordered to the cause. (Read more)

Costa Mesa-based Simpluris, which offers services to attorneys settling class action lawsuits, recently donated $3,000 to nonprofit Serving People in Need. The nonprofit provides critical services, including meals and referrals to shelters, to homeless individuals and families. As part of a new partnership with the nonprofit, Simpluris plans to provide rèsumè writing workshops to clients. (Read more)

This year's Irrelevant Week events will help support SPIN (Serving People in Need), the Costa Mesa organization that assists the homeless of Orange County. Over 250 volunteers were honored at one of the largest volunteer events in Orange County; the Volunteer Center Annual Spirit of Volunteerism Awards luncheon held at the Hyatt Regency Irvine. SPIN volunteers Ann and Russ Kerr were honored for their longtime dedication to the nonprofit.
A helping hand never hurts, especially in economic times like these. Fifteen seventh-grade girls with the Newport Mesa Charity League reached out to local families in need Monday at the Irvine Regional Park. (Read more)
