SPIN in the News
March 28, 2010
Lana Chandler passed away on March 27, 2009. For her family and many friends it was too soon. We were not ready to lose this courageous, positive spirit. Lana was hired as SPIN’s talented Public Relations consultant in 2006. We quickly learned that we had far more than someone to go to for public relations. SPIN had an advocate, fundraiser, promoter, event committee member, a new source of ideas and contacts in the community — a virtual whirlwind of activity, and most importantly, a friend.
Nothing stopped Lana. Even when she was diagnosed with cancer, she kept working and she kept that positive spirit. If anything, she worked harder for SPIN and the families and individuals in our programs who are trying, despite the odds, to get ahead. Perhaps she felt an empathy with them.
Lana adored her daughter Ashley. She was proud of her every accomplishment in college and thrilled when the water polo coach and the swim teach coach both wanted Ashley on their teams. She loved flowers, roses especially, and red velvet cupcakes. Knowing how much she loved flowers, I was deeply touched when informed that Lana did not want flowers for her celebration of life, but asked that donations go to SPIN instead.
Lana leaves behind her daughter Ashley, her beloved Buddy, friends too numerous to count and memories that will keep her with us always.
