3rd Annual Jean Wegener Humanitarian Award
Debra Gunn Downing
Serving People in Need annually recognizes an individual or organization that is making a significant difference to the lives of those experiencing the effects of homelessness. Debra Gunn Downing, Executive Director of Marketing at South Coast Plaza, has not only elevated Orange County’s premier shopping destination to global acclaim but has also ensured it serves as a vital philanthropic partner for local nonprofits.
During her remarks, Debra spoke about the importance of giving back and reminded us that every person deserves to be seen, valued, and recognized for their worth. Her words reflect her own lifelong commitment to uplifting others and creating positive change.
Inaugural Legacy Award
The Croul Family Foundation
Spencer and Susan Croul with Katrina Foley, Vice chair of OC Board of Supervisors
This year marked the introduction of SPIN’s new Legacy Award, honoring lasting contributions that extend far beyond one lifetime. It was an honor to hear Jack Croul’s family, Spencer and Susan Croul, speak about the extraordinary work he established and the values that continue to guide the Croul Family Foundation.
For nearly 30 years, the Foundation has supported programs that alleviate poverty, strengthen education, and assist veterans and those experiencing homelessness. Their legacy is one of compassion, opportunity, and enduring impact. SPIN has been deeply grateful to be among the organizations touched by their generosity for more than two decades.
