Introducing the Jean Wegener Humanitarian Award

Jean Wegener began as a Case Manager at SPIN while SPIN’s mission, “To Serve People in Need,” was still being defined. For the next 32 years, Jean would help define SPIN again and again as the needs in our community changed. She served as SPIN’s Executive Director for more than 25 years.

Never judging those who were less fortunate, Jean opened SPIN’s doors to all, including families, when no one else would not — or could not — do anything for them. Jean ensured that thousands of individuals were given another chance. With Jean’s passing in May 2021, Orange County lost one of its visionaries in the fight against homelessness.

SPIN is dedicated to continuing her legacy. The SPIN Board of Directors created the Jean Wegener Humanitarian Award to honor Jean and recognize her legacy by presenting the award to someone in Orange County who has made a significant difference in the lives of those suffering the effects of homelessness.

The First Annual Jean Wegener Humanitarian Award will be presented to Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley

Supervisor Foley will accept the award at SPIN’s Annual Gala on September 29, 2023.
